New Subang Jaya OCPD

KLANG born Police Superintendent Yahaya Ramli will be reporting in as the new OCPD of Subang Jaya on January 3 2012. He is expected to be promoted to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) before he reports in for duty. In an exclusive telephone interview with SJ Echo, Yahaya who is now attached to the Royal Malaysian Police College in Cheras said he was looking forward to his new posting in Subang Jaya.

"I was given a briefing about Subang Jaya and my new responsibilities by Selangor police chief Dato Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah on Tuesday (Jan 20)." "From what I gather Subang Jaya is an effluent community and it will be a big challenge," he said. Yahaya replaces the late ACP Zainal Rashid Abu Bakar who passed away in October 2011. Yahaya, 53 who was former Klang CID chief said the crime rate in Subang Jaya was low compared to Klang where he was for four years. He said he looked forward to meeting his officers and also the community when he assumes his duties in the New Year.

His career in the police force spans 35 years. Yahaya is married with 5 children. "My eldest child is 23 years old. I married a little late at 30," he said with a chuckle. Yahaya has spent most of his career in the CID division. Among his other postings, he was the OCPD of Ranau in Sabah from 2006-2008. He has fond memories of his stint in Ranau and his voice "lit up" when Ranau pineapples were brought up during the interview. "The pineapples in Ranau are one of the sweetest one can find in the country," he said. Yahaya will take over the reins of IPD Subang Jaya from Acting OCPD Superintendent Tan Ah Chua who has held the helm since Zainal's death.
