Please be on the look out for 2 groups of 4 Indians (apology, not meant to be racist, but to inform), one group on motorbike and the other one is on a Proton Silver or Gold (could change) robbing people of their cash and belongings.

Last 2 weeks, robberies by the same groups have happened in SS14 and SS18 near Shell Station ATM during broad daylight. Please do not confront them if you happen to see them. They could be armed. Safety first. Call for back up

THE Selangor Meterological Department has said Subang Jaya was the worst affected by the storm on Sunday and more is expected during the week. A department official said other areas like Puchong had also been hit. He said trees were uprooted and roofs of homes had been blown off in these areas.

“This kind of storm can happen anywhere due to heavy cloud activity,’’ he said. He added that Subang Jaya had experienced a similar situation once before. The official said it could not be concluded that Subang Jaya was prone to hailstorms. “But what happened on Sunday can be regarded as extreme,’’ he said Meanwhile, the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) has received about 40 complaints on the hailstorm havoc on Sunday.

According to the reports made by the residents, there were more than 50 cases of trees being uprooted Residents have complained of damage to their houses and vehicles. There was also a power failure in USJ 3 at about 3.30pm. Power supply was restored only at about 11.45pm. A USJ resident said it was lucky that the storm occurred on a Sunday, otherwise there would have been a massive traffic congestion.

MPSJ public relations assistant director Azfarizal Abdul Rashid said the affected areas were USJ 1, 2, 9, 10, 13, 14, 16 and 17 as well as Kampung Kenangan in Puchong with flash floods reported in some of the low-lying areas. He added that they first received reports of uprooted trees at 2.30pm. “We took immediate action to clear the trees. We had to scramble to remove the trees that were obstructing roads and walkways as well as those that were deemed dangerous. “By 1am, we removed most of the trees and are now clearing branches that were cut off,” he said.

Azfarizal urged the public to call 03-5637 6545 to report any cases of uprooted trees and go to the MPSJ evaluation and property management department to make insurance claims for damaged property.

MPSJ acts on improving bulk waste collection

THE Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) has set up a task force comprising five teams to handle bulk waste collection.MPSJ president Datuk Asmawi Kasbi said the task force had begun collecting bulk waste since numerous complaints arose from the public.

Since the beginning of its operations, Asmawi said the council had received a total of 102 complaints regarding uncollected bulk waste in October compared with 106 in the previous month.“The number of complaints have reduced. We will come up with a fixed schedule and inform residential areas on the specific days and designated areas for bulk waste collection,” said Asmawi, adding that Subang Jaya is the highest on the list in terms of bulk waste collection.“The task force has until December to compile the data and statistics on bulk waste collection in Subang Jaya,” he said, adding that the collection will be carried out twice a month.

He said since Alam Flora Sdn Bhd had ceased providing garbage collection and cleaning services in Selangor on Oct 16, the number of complaints for domestic waste collection had also reduced to 89 in October compared with 124 in August.He said the council had no plans to increase the number of contractors for garbage collection services but assured that the council would monitor their progress from time to time.

At present, the council has 71 contractors assigned to garbage collection services in Subang Jaya.Garbage is collected three times a week for residential areas and playgrounds, six times a week for high-rise buildings, commercial areas and industrial areas, and daily for wet markets.

Urban Park in the Making in USJ3

The last remaining piece of unmarked land in USJ, situated between the TNB power lines and USJ3C along Persiaran Setia, will be developed into an Urban Forest. Since last year, the usage of this piece of land has been up in discussion, since the proposed private recreation development fell through and was cancelled. While private developers were eyeing the 5 acres land for various commercial developments, JKP Zone 3 was determined to see it preserved as recreational for the benefit of Subang Jaya & USJ residents.

Toying with the idea of an Organic Eco Farm, centre for some cultural activities, and a green lung, the development of this recreational centre is moving ahead this November with Phase 1: creating an urban forest. What was great is the fact that MPSJ’s Town Planning Department is also was moving along the same thinking lines as JKP, and they revealed earlier this year a suggestion to create the urban forest. Things got into motion with a meeting between MPSJ’s Town Planning Department, Landscape Department and JKP in March.

Since then, the Rotary Club of USJ has come forth to volunteer to plant trees. The timing is perfect, This coming 11th November 2011 (11/11/11), JKP3, MPSJ & the Rotary Club of USJ will be planting 1111 (yes, one thousand one hundred and eleven trees) at the site. MPSJ is in the midst of preparing the trees to be planted, as well as the necessary earth works as you read this now.

For Phase one, besides planting the trees, there will be an earth trail thru the “forest”.Later, we aim to build some public toilets, maybe some picnic areas, and if we can get a suitable partner, start the Organic Farm, which will serve as some sort of plant and maybe animal museum for the city kids.

MPSJ introduces new multi-purpose patrol car



THE next time you are double-parked on busy Subang Jaya roads especially in commercial areas and you hear your vehicle registration number being called out, move it fast!

That “last call” if unheeded would see your vehicle being towed away by the enforcement unit of the Subang Municipal Council.

MPSJ president Dato Asmawi Kasbi said had introduced the new Proton Inspira enforcement vehicle, the first of its kind in the municipality to be used round the clock for official duties, including enforcement operations.

“The vehicle will be used to escort VIPs and assist in traffic dispersal especially when traffic lights are down or in accidents.”

“We will be using this to patrol commercial areas to deter double parking. We will announce via the public announcement system installed in the car and sound the siren to ask vehicle owners to remove their cars before towing operations begin,” he said.

Asmawi said MPSJ’s enforcement unit on motorcycles would continue issuing summonses to those who double-parked.

He said the vehicle will also be used during natural disasters and compliment the police force

MPSJ to clean up neighbourhood of rubbish within a month

THE Subang Jaya Municipal Council will clean up the neighbourhood of rubbish within a month, says council president Dato Asmawi Kasbi.

“We will clear up all the rubbish and bulky waste which has been indiscriminately dumped by road shoulders.”

“The council will also place big bins for residents to dump their bulky waste as a measure to reduce indiscriminate dumping,” he said to SJ Echo after the council’s monthly morning briefing.

Asmawi said the Urban Services and Landscape Department would be teamed up to tackle this problem.

“MPSJ lorries will be mobilised to pick up rubbish by the road shoulders throughout the whole municipality,” he said.

He said MPSJ would place bulky waste bins in strategic locations and hoped that residents would give their cooperation to the council to stem the problem.
On illegal banners and signages, Asmawi admitted that the council was overwhelmed with the problem.

“MPSJ contractors who had been asked to help remove the Ah Long banners in Seri Kembangan were threatened by thugs.”

“Our enforcement officers have been directed to tackle this issue and to increase their efforts to fight this problem,” he said.

Asmawi said the council would contact utility companies like Tenaga Nasional and Telekom Malaysia to explore ways to clean up stickers which had vandalised their property as well.

“I would like to appeal to residents to help us out too. Call us if you spot people putting up illegal banners and placing stickers everywhere,” he said.

BEFORE you leave for your holidays this Hari Raya, do a quick checklist to switch off non-essential electrical items and cooking gadgets in the kitchen.

This according to SS17 Bomba chief Deputy Superintendent Khairi Daud, is to ensure homes are safe from any risk of short circuits which may result in fire, while the house owner is away.

“Most times when a fire breaks out, it is because of short circuits or faulty gas stoves while the house owner is away.”

“Help reduce the risk of untoward incidences by looking at the basic checklist we have provided here and do a quick check before you Balik Kampung,” Khairi said.

He said personnel from the SS17 Bomba station will be proactively going out to public areas during this Ramadhan to hand out the checklist to residents and to remind them on how best to minimise a fire at home.

“We will be going out to the pasar Ramadhan stalls and public areas to give out the checklist to residents,” he said.
